THE BIG CHEESE
Dougie’s Dog Treats is a family run natural dog treat business inspired by our beloved Pug, Dougie. We stumbled across an ancient Himalayan cheese chew recipe and began making them in our Kitchen. Now we run a full scale operation out of our home in Bristol. Our goal is to provide our customers with a low fat dog treat that benefits the dogs health and ensures happiness all around.

The Origin of the Himalayan Cheese Chew
The Big Cheese Chews originated in the Himalayan hills. The Himalayan people, and their dogs, would eat the chew.
Made from skimmed Cow’s milk, lemon juice and salt, the ingredients coagulates and hardens into a consistency that allows us to process it into low fat cheese. The cheese is compressed into blocks, cut and dehydrated for 24 hours before being left to air dried for 28 days.
MAKING THE CHEESE
Low fat skimmed Cow’s milk is boiled in a pan. Then a small amount of lemon juice and Himalayan salt is added to coagulate and harden the milk into cheese.
COMPRESSING THE CHEESE
The hardened milk / cheese product is wrapped in a cheese cloth and then compressed with weights, we do this for 24 hours to remove the moisture.
CUTTING THE CHEESE
Cheese blocks are then cut to size whilst the product is still relatively soft, we place the cheese onto trays and dehydrate for 24 hours.
DEHYRATING THE CHEESE
The dehydrated cheese blocks are air dried for 28 days until they become very hard. Hard enough for the most extreme chewers!

The hard texture means dogs need to soften and work at the treat before they’re rewarded with small pieces to eat, so you get to keep them happily entertained for a lot longer.

Feeding Guide
Complementary feed for dogs only as part of a balanced diet. Always supervise your dog and ensure drinking water is available. Feed on a non-stainable surface and dispose if any small pieces or sharp edges are present.
For zero waste, pop the end piece in the microwave for up to 60 seconds (based on 800w watt microwave) until puffed and allow to cool before feeding to your dog.
Not for human consumption. Not suitable for puppies under 4 months.
Storage
Store in a cool dry place to prolong shelf life.
